Apps & Software I like, gadgets I tinker with, and further unwarranted suggestions

People often inquire about the tools and strategies I employ to deliver projects efficiently. This encompasses a comprehensive list of all the things I predominantly appreciate and use. Here’s a big list of all of my favorite stuff.

Workstation

  • 14” MacBook Pro, M3 Max, 36GB RAM (2023)

Just between us, I used to have this Intel-based 16" MacBook Pro, right? Now, I‘ve moved to this new machine and, seriously, it‘s like comparing night with day. I‘ve been working it hard with LLM‘s, data processing and everything else, and believe me, I haven‘t heard the fan make a peep even once. Astonishing, isn‘t it?

  • Apple Magic Keyboard

Yes, I have about 8 or 9 awesome mechanical keyboards. But there is something about the smoothness of this keyboard that I can just fly on the keys. I do miss the satisfying clack, but I guess it's akin to how a Tesla driver might miss the roar of an exhaust - times change, after all.

  • Plaud AI Note

I use this bad boy for recording and breaking down meetings. Is it the best, no.. But I paid $150, and have a year of free AI transcribing and summaries. At times, its come through in a clutch for last minute notes or missed details

  • Sony XM3's Or Apple Airpod Pros

So if I‘m jamming on a work session or in the zone, I throw on the Sony's. But with glasses it can be a bit cumbersome. For meetings and everything else I have my Airpod Pros. Quality, and last for hours in the droll meetings.

  • Bose 2.1 Channel Computer Speakers

This is for when nobody is either home, or within yelling distance. These are the best sub- $100 speaker you will ever own in your life. Amazing sound. Real shame you have to buy them on Ebay.

Development tools

  • Jetbrains (PHPStorm, PyCharm, DataGrip)

Jetbrains excel with features such as real-time code inspection, integrated code language profiling, robust testing, and efficient refactoring tools. The suite of tools from Jetbrains make integration easy across platforms. Within limitation of course.

  • iTerm2

I’m honestly not even sure what features I get with this that aren’t just part of the macOS Terminal but it’s what I use.

  • TablePlus

Great software for working with databases. Makes querying databases not the most arduous task and has a pretty nice interface and flow!

Productivity

  • RayCast

Love this tool and boatload of extensions for everything. You can even build your own and not fuss with command line arguments anymore!
